Getting out of bed is a daily struggle, you go to bed feeling unmotivated and miserable and you wake up feeling unmotivated and miserable – it feels like you are on auto pilot. Your heart feels heavy and a feeling of worthlessness makes you feel like you are stuck in a slump, an awful dark place.  You start to lack the willpower to engage in any activity.  It causes feelings of inadequacy, doubt, low self-esteem, anger, fear, and anxiety; these may result in overall feelings of hopelessness and feeling depressed. 

Depression can feel too intense to deal with, almost like it has taken over your entire life, it has become common within our modern society. It is more than just a low mood – it’s a serious condition that affects your physical and mental health. Often you feel alone, rejected and misunderstood, like a prisoner of your own emotions. Whether you are in and out of a mild depression, or constantly feeling depressed it does have a negative effect in your relationships with family, friends and co-workers. It grossly impairs your basic functions, it can consume the mind with negative and limiting beliefs about yourself and your life.

I was that person that always had an uplifting contribution to any conversation but inside I felt like I was drowning. I felt like I had no one to talk to that would understand what I was going through because at that time I didn’t even understand myself what I was going through, I felt alone. I felt guilty because I knew I had so much to be grateful for but yet, I didn’t feel any gratitude, I couldn’t understand why I felt so unhappy. I remember the day I finally actually realised what it was, it hit me like a ton of bricks “I am depressed”. I didn’t want to live but I also knew that I didn’t want to die.  It was a weird and uncomfortable space to be in.  Deep down, I wanted to be happy, I wanted to improve my relationships and learn to manage these overwhelming emotions because I was tired of feeling tired. I wanted to climb out of this dark whole of dealing with depression. I wanted to find new alternative ways to deal with depression and start my healing journey. And, so I did.
